Win rate is the first stat everyone asks about, mostly because it's simple, single, and emotionally satisfying to report. It's also a genuinely poor predictor of whether an account survives the next twelve months, compared to a quieter set of numbers almost nobody leads with.

Why win rate keeps getting the attention it doesn't deserve

It's one number, easy to compute, easy to brag about or feel bad about. The problem is that it says nothing about position sizing, nothing about whether wins were bigger than losses, and nothing about whether the process behind each trade was actually sound or just happened to work out this time.

Plan adherence (did the trade actually match your defined setup), sizing consistency (is risk per trade staying stable, or spiking after wins and losses), and post-loss behavior (time and size gap before the next trade) — together, these describe the actual process behind the outcomes, not just the outcomes themselves.
